Topic 1 – Digital Differences

“Digital Differences” is generally referring to the differences or impacts caused by the digital evolution.

Surprisingly, as we look back, digital technology has change the way we do things in all aspects. Instead of going to the grocery stores, we can now shop online and get the goods delivered to our doorstep. We no longer make frequent trip to the bank but just click a few buttons online to make our desired changes regarding finances. Students only need to buy a kindle or tablet to store their reading materials and do not have to carry many heavy books to school.

My interaction with the web is mostly learning or reading related. When I was in secondary school, our instructors never incorporate online learning into our study. The whole process of learning only consists teachers imparting knowledge and completing after class exercises. Our scope was limited to exams and exams only.

Nowadays, however, I utilize the internet extensively for learning purpose. The search engines provide me with endless scholar articles for further exploration of the topics. The relevant news from all over the world helps me to apply my knowledge to the real world. I can also join online forum to discuss problems or difficulties with other students without meeting them in person.

There are also countless studies focusing on the impact of digital technology on students or general learning process. One article (JDM Underwood, 2009) explains that there are two major impacts shown in behavioral changes: readiness of learning, integration of learners into educational process. The former stress digital technology allows learners to fully benefit from formal education by monitoring behavior and providing additional resources. And the latter states digital technology also helps students to overcome barriers caused by their background or disabilities.

  1. After you explained the definition of the Digital Differences, the part you impressed me the most is the contrast between the past and the present through the introduction of how the technology has changed different aspects of your life. You clearly explained the differences between “with technology” and “without technology” and in what way the Web has changed your life. The good thing to note is that you stated the 2 major impacts of digital differences in behavioral changes coupled with their functions.

Nevertheless, I am curious about whether there are any other benefits or changes the digital technology has brought for you? From my perspective, you can combine the last three paragraphs into one and summarize the main points, so that you can also include other aspects of your interaction with the Web. For example, the digital technology has changed the style of communication in modern times.

    1. Thanks for the comment Pearly~

Digital technology does changed the way I communicating with other people. I don’t have to call from them by landline but just shoot they a message through text or Wechat. And a lot of time I interact with my friends who are thousands miles away just using Facebook or Twitter.
